Welcome to the spring season and the school year is at 50 days.  We had 2-3 inches of snow yesterday with a 1-hour delay.  Cooler weather is predicted for this week.  What is this crap anyway?  I am ready to get my ragtop on the road.  Brian Cote's little girl is too cute to believe.  Arts week was a success.  I worked with Dan Falt.  Enjoy every day.  Steve. 7. A Tail as Old as Time by Elle Hay

Goodreads:  3.48 - 116 ratings
My rating:  2
RomCom

My comments:   Two next-door neighbors chase their escaped darling dog and cat all around Coral Gables, only to discover they ran home again.  Love how they even get up and down on the elevator on their own (not!)  And of course the neighbors end up really liking each other.  Totally stupid from beginning to end.

Goodreads synopsis:  A rom-com novella that will warm every animal lover’s heart about two neighbors who fight like cats and dogs - but who can’t deny their animal attraction.
Ever since Alana Diaz adopted her cat Furrari, she has found herself in a feud with her infuriating neighbor, whom she knows only by the name on the passive aggressive notes he leaves on her door - R. Jones. Alana works hard all day, and the last thing she needs when she finally relaxes on her balcony with a glass of wine and her new furry roommate is her neighbor’s dog barking his head off. The only solution is to retreat inside. So what if her neighbor has smoldering good looks? It’s ruined when he glares at her little fuzzball of joy for upsetting his dog Kevin. And who the hell names their dog Kevin, anyway?
But when Furrari and Kevin both go missing, Alana and Jones are left with no choice but to team up. As their pets lead them through the beaches, fancy hotels, and more all over Coral Gables, two lonely, jaded people might find they've been chasing the wrong things all along.

Dear Chris,
My name is Sonette and I live in a small town, Ifafi, in the north west of South Africa.  I love nature, reading, photography and cross stitching.  My home language is Afrikaans.  It is similar to Dutch.  A few words in my language:  "Lekker" = nice; "Pragtig" = beautiful; 'Vrede" = peace.  I hope you enjoy the postcard.  It is taken in a reserve called "The Hell" because it is so remote!
Warm regards, Sonette.

Hell Chris!  Baia das Gatas is the best place to go for a swim in this beautiful and small island where I live.  Fishing is obviously one of the traditional economic activities in Cape Verde, which is an archipelago country.  We are planning on spending the day outdoors and cook "cachu pa guisod'  (a typical Cape Verdean dish with corn) over a wood fire on the beach...but it's raining cats and dogs!  All the best to you! 18 October 2015 28 degrees C

Hello from the high desert of New Mexico.  I agree you have a great job!  My first (though unpaid) job was in the library ofn my dad's military post.  Lifelong love affair with books.  Hope this card is quirky enough.  Be safe.  'abqgranny' Diane

 2032. Greetings from Santa Fe!
I've worked with teens for many years and one of my favorite books of all-time to connect with them is The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.  It's poignant and hysterical.  Alexic also wrote a powerful memoir called You Don't Have to Say You Love Me that I couldn't put down.  I also love There There by Tommy Orange, who studied at IAIA in Santa Fe.   -Nola

966.  Albuquerque, New Mexico
Albuquerque is an ideal location for this exciting event because of something called "the box," which is a set of predictable wind patterns that can be exploited to navigate the balloons.  Higher elevations tend to be northerly while lower elevations are normally southerly and the balloonists use this theory to navigate their balloons in a sox-like shape staying in the are to show off their wild and wonderful creations to the enthusiastic fans below.
Best wishes from Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Every October my city hosts the biggest in the world, International Hot Air Balloon Festival.  The sky is filled with balloons and the city with thousands of visitors.  Fall colors are spectacular!  14 October 2017

Postcards of Books in Particular

This is a really hard topic. (Favorite protagonast)  I have many favorite characters but the ones who come to mind are strong female characters like Anne Shirley (Green gables) Meg Murry (Wrinkle in Time + Hermione from Harry Potter.  The latter two being science minded like me.  For swoon worthy, Gabriel Oak from Far From the Madding Crowd.  Sigh.  I loved him.  And for nonhumans Iorek Byrnison - the armored bear from Golden Compass.  I want an armored bear!  Happy Reading, Amy.

First published in 1945, it won an Edgar for best first novel in 1946 and is considered a "classic of crime fiction."  It's a 70-year-old mytery novel...looks like I'm going to have to at least research it more, if not attempt to find it and read it....)
