Bats at the Library - Brian Lies

For: Kids
Published: Sept., 2008

Written in quatrains, AABB:

Another inky evning's here ---
the air is cool and calm and clar.
We've feasted, fluttered, swooped, and soared,
and yet . . . we're still a little bored.

Apparently, once in awhile, the library window is left ajar and all the bat fly in to enjoy a night in the library - reading, playing games, swimming in the fountain, telling stories, getting lost within a tale. The illustrations are dark (it IS night in the library, after all), and the bats are clearly drawn and very unscary (what a great word). This is a great book for library lovers.
