MOVIE - The Intern

PG-13
Wide release 9/25/15
Kolb cheapie theater, Wed. 1/13/16
RT Critic: 60   Audience:  76
Critic's Consensus:  The Intern doesn't do enough with its timely premise, but benefits from the unorthodox chemistry of its talented leads.
Cag: 4,5 Liked it a whole lot
Directed by Nancy Meyers
Warner Bros. Pictures

Robert DeNiro, Anne Hathaway

My comments:  I looked forward to this for months, and was not disappointed.  Because age (mine) is seriously starting to bother me....people make me feel so old.....this was a huge boost, full of positivity and chemistry between the two marvelous protagonists.  It got a bit smarmy in a place or two, gave me some great laughs, and was a real pleaser!

RT Summary:  70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker has discovered that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin.

4/ Liked it a lot- it was freaking hilarious!
Directed by Jon Turteltaub
Film Studio: CBS Films

Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro, Kevin Kline, Michael Douglas

My comments:  This was hilarious!  Sure, you knew exactly what was going to happen well before it did, but the laughs along the way were great.  Particularly good was Morgan Freeman, grinning, dancing, and being the magical man he is.....

Fandango::  Four geriatric friends vow to set Las Vegas ablaze during the ultimate bachelor party in this all-star comedy from director Jon Turteltaub (National TreasureThe Sorcerer's Apprentice). Amongst his friends, Billy (Michael Douglas) has always been the confirmed bachelor. When Billy finally pops the question to his much-younger girlfriend, his pals Paddy Robert De Niro, Archie Morgan Freeman, and Sam Kevin Kline plan to send him off in style. But Vegas has changed since the last time they prowled the Strip, and once the party gets started, there's no telling how it will end

Movie - The Big Wedding

R (1:29)
Wide release April 26, 2013
Saw it at Crossroads Sat. afternoon 5/25/13 (Happy Birthday, Steve...)
Comedy
RT Critic:  8% Audience: 69%
Cag:  4/Liked it a lot
Directed by Justin Zackham
Lionsgate Films

Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Topher Grace, Katherine Heigl, Robin Williams, Amanda Seyfried

My thoughts:  The Big Wedding was a frivolously fun movie to watch on a Saturday afternoon.  There were lots of good ha ha's and many gentle chuckles...and even a few snorts coming from me.  What a fantastic cast to be able to watch, some famous names and a few new faces that were quite delightful.  You could tell exactly what was going to happen, there were no surprises at all, but that was okay...that's not the kinds of movie it was.  The setting - a huge house on the edge of a clear, calm lake on a perfect summer weekend (by watching the credits I think it was somewhere in or about Greenwich, CT).   I enjoyed the movie a lot.  And Topher Grace was adorable.

Fandango/Rotten Tomatoes synopsis:  A charmingly modern family tires to survive a weekend wedding celebration that has the potential to become a full blown family fiasco. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (De Niro and Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son's wedding after his ultra conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend. With all of the wedding guests looking on, the Griffins are hilariously forced to confront their past, present and future - and hopefully avoid killing each other in the process

MOVIE - Silver Linings Playbook

R (2:00)
Supposedly widely released 11/21/12 (but not here in Tucson!)
Viewed Monday, 1/7/13 at El Con
RT Critic: 91  Audience: 90
Cag:  Awesome/Terrific/More-than loved it *6*
Directed by David O. Russell
The Weinstein Company

Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker

I was totally entranced by this film.  Bradley Cooper was wonderful as a bipolar man trying his best to keep his life together without medication.  Robert DeNiro, the father who loved him (and ultimately had similar mental disabilities as his son), was so believable. Jacki Weaver, the mom, was right-on perfect (I though she was an aged Sally Struthers throughout the movie) Chris Tucker, who played the in-again, out-again friend, added just the right touch.  And Jennifer Lawrence just shined.  She nailed the part.  What a cast!  What a story!  Such fantastic acting!!!!  I loved it. And I'd watch it again and again.

MOVIE INFO

Life doesn't always go according to plan. Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) has lost everything -- his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months is a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat's parents want is for him to get back on his feet-and to share their family's obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he'll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives
